Anyone Interested in Playing 7th/8th Grade Football MUST Sign up by Monday, August 23rd!

We are currently short at least 10 players of being able to offer a 7th/8th grade League through the Rec. We will offer a “LAST CHANCE” Registration now through Monday at 5 PM.

Please come by (with your fees of $60 in-city/$80 out-city) and register your child at the Larry Bagwell Gymnasium. We will accept cash, check, or credit card. We offer financial aid to those who qualify. (To qualify you must present an EBT or a Medicaid card.)

For those already registered we will send out an e-mail blast as soon as we have the numbers necessary to move forward with the league. Tentatively we are planning on drafts taking place within a week or so. I apologize for the drawn out process, however I assure you all that we are doing all that we can to get your children on the football field this fall.

The 2010/11 Football season will kickoff for the SCHSL this Friday night with what is called “Week Zero” games. Your very own EHS Green Wave will open up with a Home game at Brice Field with Kickoff set for 7:30pm.

The Wave will break in a New Head Coach, a New Offense, & a New Attitude on the West Oak Warriors.

Keep up with the Easley Football Score on The Evening Sports Page with Ron Scarborough

The Coaches will meet and select the players this evening based on their combined knowledge of these players through their previous seasons both in Fall Ball and Little League. Our coaching staffs are very knowledgeable of the majority of the players that are signed up, so we are optimistic that the teams will be fairly even.

After the coaches select their teams, they will receive the players’ registration forms which will give them the contact info. They will contact you between this evening and tomorrow night.

Practices are scheduled to begin this Thursday. Your coach will have your teams’ practice schedule from now until the season begins. A game schedule will go out as soon as it becomes available to us. We at ERD are not making the schedule, so we have to wait to receive it from the Fall League Directors.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer as we all prepare for another fall baseball season and new school year! As the Athletic Director of the ERD I look forward to overseeing my first baseball season since arriving here in the summer of 2000. ERD has offered a Fall season the past few years and our Director has taken the responsibilities of running that league as he has an extensive baseball background and has done a fabulous job with the league up to this point.

My baseball background is not as extensive, however I did play and coach baseball for a few years. I served as both A.D. and President with a Youth Association in Greenville which had as many as 17 teams each spring. When I took the A.D. position here in Easley, the spring baseball season was under the direction of the Easley Little League board and therefore, my supervision over that sport was not necessary. Greg Powell (ERD Director) helped to upstart a Fall League which he organized along with local programs in Pickens, Oconee, and Anderson. And that is the League which we will compete in again this season.

So, as I move into a new area with a new group of parents and coaches, please be patient as I work towards offering the best possible experience for players, parents, and coaches. I look forward to this opportunity!

Here we are… FOOTBALL season!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer and you all are ready to get back to school and on the gridiron. We are looking forward to another GREAT football season at ERD. Our numbers held strong again this year and we really feel good about our new divisional breakdowns. We feel that the competition should be GREAT and our newly formed “Instructional League” should start to build a strong base for our programs’ future!

League Info

Due to us registering by school and appointing players to their teams via that system, we often do not have to evaluate players. The purpose of evaluations and drafts is to see the players and to have coaches select them. If they are pre-assigned then that is unnecessary. The exceptions are for schools that have enough players to split into 2 teams or to evaluate unassigned players (homeschoolers or players from schools outside of Easley) also known as “free agents”.

This year we have split our divisions into a Gold Division (Instructional) for K-2nd, Silver Division for 3rd-4th, White Division for 5th-6th, and a Green Division for 7th-8th.

As it worked out this year, we have enough players in the Silver and White Divisions for 1 school team in each division. There are very few “free-agents” so we will not evaluate them, instead they will be randomly placed on teams. In the White Division there were enough “free-agents” to create their owm team. This team will be the Cowboys.

The ONLY group that will need to attend an evaluation this year will be the rising 2nd Graders that want to try out to be moved up to the Silver 3rd / 4th Division.

If you are one of those 2nd graders, please come to Pope Field on Thursday, August 5th at 6:30pm fully dressed for a full-contact workout.

2nd graders not wanting to “play up” with 3rd/4th will automatically be placed in our “Developmental” League with K/1st graders. This League will be much more focused on fundamentals, drillwork, and learning the game. They will play games, but the atmosphere will be more geared towards fun and learning!!! 2nd Graders wanting to play in this League DO NOT need to come to evaluations.

A List of players from ALL Divisions (except Green) as well as their assigned teams will be posted after 5pm on Friday, August 6th in the Lobby of the Gym, at Pope Football Field Pressbox, and at the Complex Football Field Pressbox.  This posting will include your first practice site, time, and date as well as your Head Coaches phone number. Please do not call the office for this information.

All practices are scheduled to begin on Monday, August 9th!

7th/8th Green Division

After a long process of trying to crunch numbers to make the 7th/8th division work, we have come up with a scenario that will allow us to keep these young men on the field this fall. We will run an 8-man League for this group with teams of 12-15 players. The League will not begin until Monday, August 23rd due to the GMS tryouts not being completed until after school gets back in on the 17th.

More information will go out in mid-August with specific info concerning the start-up of this division.

Anyone who is interested in being a 2010 ERD Football Coach, please note that there will be an initial meeting Thursday, July 29th, at the Larry Bagwell Gymnasium at 6pm sharp! We will cover a lot of information on this night and your attendance is crucial!  Coaches please bring a notebook and pen to the meeting!

Easley High School Head Coach Chad Smith is scheduled to speak as well as Keith Carter from Dozier Sports Clinic who will do a short class on heat illnesses, first aid, and concussions. As the Athletic Director, I will give an update on the current status of our program as well as answer any questions concerning our age divisions, scheduling, rules, etc.

We will also have a Coaches Clinic to be conducted by Easley High School Head Coach Chad Smith to discuss the offensive and defensive systems which will be used throughout the Easley Program from Varsity all the way down to our 3rd/4th division. This Clinic (which is mandatory for all Head Coaches) will be held on Saturday, August 7th at Easley High School.  The Green Wave team will also be scrimmaging at Brice Field that morning and Coach Smith encourages all of the Easley Rec coaches to attend that as well. The Clinic will begin around Noon and last for about 2 hours.

To all of our 2010 Football Coaches I want to say “Thank You” for volunteering your time and I look forward to seeing you at the meeting next Thursday!

Each year, the series grows in popularity, as changes are made to continually improve the event. This year is no exception. On Aug 4th, the championship game played in “Prime Time”. ESPN will televise the championship game under the lights for the first time.

So while other towns slow down in the heat of the summer, Easley pulls out all the stops and comes together to create an experience to last a lifetime. The shops of Easley see new customers. The hotels welcome guests from near and far. The restaurants in town will introduce their local cuisine. All because the boys of summer come to Easley, SC to play a game. All because of the Big League Baseball World Series.
